School Safety

Our school has a Crisis Response Box that includes a comprehensive school safety plan. Required by the state, the plan includes policies and procedures for responding to:

  • Disasters such as fire, earthquake, or situations requiring a lock down.
  • Serious disciplinary problems.
  • Child abuse.
  • Sexual harassment.

Practice drills are periodically held to ensure that students will be safe in the event of a disaster.

Adult supervision is provided in classrooms and in outside areas before and after school, during lunch, and during passing time between classes. Under the direction of the principal or site administrator, specific school building security procedures are implemented by staff. In addition, district offices support schools by reviewing and disseminating safety requirements and information, coordinating safety-related services, and providing training and assistance.

All visitors must report to the main office and secure a pass, which is to be worn while on campus. To pick up a child from school, an individual must be an adult listed on the student's enrollment card and able to prove his/her identity with a picture ID.

Campus Security

In order to keep our school secure, San Diego Unified School District has asked that all schools keep their campuses safe by locking all gates. Anyone wishing to visit campus must enter through the front office and sign in.

Bicycle Security

Wangenheim takes every precaution to provide security in the bicycle rack, however students park their bicycles at their own risk. The school is not responsible for damage to or theft of bicycles.Students who ride a bicycle to school must have a secure lock with which to lock the bicycle to a rack in the bicycle rack. In addition, state law requires students to wear helmets when riding their bicycles. Students are expected to walk their bikes in front of the school and on campus. It is strongl yrecommended that all bicycles ridden to school be registered and/or licensed. The bike racks are locked from 7:30 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.
