Did you know that Wangenheim is the only middle school in the district with a metal shop? ConstructionTechnology consists of metal shop and wood shop. Safety and the correct use of tools is our primary focus. Students use a variety of hand toolspower tools to make small projects.

In metal shop, we use sheet metal to create different projects such as chandeliers, trowels, and tool boxes. Students get hands-on experience with different types of metal work such as foundry and welding. The students learn to work together as they gain experiencewith many different tools. They also develop a sense of responsibility asthey use a variety of tools and learn the importance of followingdirections. Students learn what it takes to run a professional shop.

Students also express their creativity in wood shop. Projects include skateboards, chess boards, picture frames and a variety of other interesting projects. Students learn accurate measurement, precision cutting with a saw, and safe use of a disc sander andother tools. While they do this, they know that safety comes first and that respect for other students is not only expected but essential.

All this hard work pays off in the end when students are able to take home well-crafted projects to their families. They are taught in a safe environment where they can make friends and express their creativity through the work they do. This class helps students develop an appreciation for the arts and craftsmanship that no other middle school can offer.
