Wangenheim Middle School intends to continue growing our positive and inclusive community by giving students more choices in expressing themselves with their clothing choices. We expect that all students will dress in a way that is appropriate for a school setting or any school-sponsored event and that their clothing choices do not interfere with the health and safety of any other student and do not contribute to a hostile or intimidating atmosphere for any other student. The following policy is intended to guide students, staff, and parents.

Basic Principle: Students must be appropriately clothed at all times. Attire deemed inappropriate is clothing that, by nature, exposes excessive portions of the skin and undergarments and may be viewed as inappropriate for an educational environment.

  •  Clothing should not expose excessive portions of the skin and cannot reveal undergarments.
  • Items that denote/promote gang affiliation, crime, profanity, pornography, weapons, alcohol, or illegal substances are not allowed.
  • Shoes must be closed-toed. (No flip-flops, sandals, slides, high heels, platforms, slippers, open toes, etc.)
  • No accessories could be considered dangerous or used as a weapon.
  • During PE students must suit up, wear shoes appropriate for physical activity/sports, and remove dangling jewelry.

If a student’s attire is a safety concern or deemed improper, the student will be required to change their clothing/shoes. If the student/parent cannot provide alternative clothing/shoes the school will. Inappropriate clothing/items may be confiscated. If an item is not picked up within one week by a parent/guardian or student with a parent/guardian signature, it will be donated to charity.  Repeat offenses may result in lunch detention or parent/student conference.
